Doctor Houck is a native of Washington State. After attending medical school at the University of Washington he completed the University of Colorado family medicine residency in Denver. He then was a volunteer physician in India and Nepal before beginning a 28 year career as a medical officer in the Commissioned Corps of the United States Public Health Service. His career with the Public Health Service included assignments with the Indian Health Service, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and temporary duty with the US Coast Guard and the Department of Defense.
He was a CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer and completed the CDC Preventive Medicine Residency. He has extensive experience working the civil aviation industry to prevent the spread of infectious diseases through air travel, and remains a consultant to the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO).
Peter enjoys skiing, hiking, and travel. He has been lucky enough to spend time in Alaska hiking, climbing, and for part of his medical school training. He looks forward to exploring more of the state and meeting some of Alaska’s legendary pilots.
